With 25+ years of experience in semiconductors, Sébastien’s expertise spans from 0.25µm down to 7nm FinFET nodes across R&D and manufacturing. His career is marked by technical leadership in process engineering, yield enhancement, device development (eDRAM cell, RF, CMOS High Voltage, …) and 14nm FDSOI technology assurance implementation. Having held pivotal roles at industry leaders like Siemens, Infineon, and IBM, he has a proven track record of navigating complex international alliances partnering with UMC, NXP and ST Microelectronics.
Since joining Soitec in 2018, Sébastien has been instrumental in the global growth of FD-SOI. Combining a Master’s in Physics with an Engineering degree in Opto and Micro-electronics from French National Engineering School in Caen, he now leverages his deep technical roots and know how in advanced substrate to drive product marketing strategy and innovation around FD-SOI engineered substrate.

Abstract:

Fully Depleted Silicon-On-Insulator (FD-SOI) technology has emerged as the definitive platform of choice for cybersecurity, particularly across the IoT, edge computing, automotive, and high-speed connectivity sectors. Moving beyond the limitations of traditional bulk CMOS, FD-SOI’s ultra-thin buried oxide (BOX) layer and dual-gate control enable dynamic reconfigurable security devices that can physically alter their logic functions at runtime. This architecture creates a low-noise environment optimized for advanced cryptography, enabling the deployment of ultra-low-power engines and high-entropy Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs). By facilitating a 'moving target' defense through polymorphic hardware obfuscation, FD-SOI does even more by resisting physical tampering and side-channel attacks. Going forward, the substrate itself can be transformed into proactive armor. Further engineered to be resilient to counterfeiting and sophisticated cyber-physical threats, FD-SOI is going to stand as the industry’s first line of defense in a hyper-connected world.
